We are hiring in Brooks for an Entrepreneur Advisor

 

We are seeking a fulltime 24-month term Entrepreneur Advisor in Brooks, Alberta operating out of the City of Brooks Business Incubator.

Community Futures Entre-Corp provides a wide range of small business services and business management tools for people wanting to start, expand, franchise or sell a business. We also run a number of specialized business programs, organize exciting business events and actively work with community and business leaders to foster rural economic growth. This position will operate in conjunction with other partners including:

The APEX Regional Innovation Network which is a collaborative initiative between Community Futures, Alberta Innovates and Medicine Hat College. APEX's vision is to create a globally competitive region for innovation and technology in Southeast Alberta. APEX strives to support local entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises to develop and adopt new technologies, commercialize innovative new products, and improve productivity.

This position will also work in partnership with the City of Brooks/County of Newell Economic Development Team. Economic Development Initiatives stem from the Joint Services Committee Strategic Plan and are administered by the City of Brooks.

Your role includes:

·        Providing business coaching and advisory services to start-ups and post-secondary students.

·        Supporting the mandate of Southeast Alberta Regional Innovation Network.

·        Supporting entrepreneurs in the Business Incubator Program.

·        Assisting in the development of new initiatives and existing small and medium-sized businesses.

·        Researching and monitoring the needs of local businesses by conducting surveys, interviews, or focus groups.

·        Reaching out to a variety of support systems to coordinating and organize learning and networking events targeted at local businesses and entrepreneurs.

·        Document and complete required reporting functions.

·        Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

·        Related degree or diploma

·        Functional competencies as a generalist in marketing, sales, finance, management, and leadership.

·        Ability to work with multiple associates who have partnered to create this positon.

·        Experience working in a business development environment.

·        Flexibility to be effective in diverse situations with an assortment of stakeholders.

·        Ability to develop positive working relationships and understand the needs of entrepreneurs who are at different stages – from student start-ups to seasoned entrepreneurs.

·        Highly skilled communicator and able to conduct presentations and facilitate training programs with multiple groups.

·        Experience as an entrepreneur or experience working with small business owners would be considered an asset.

·        Committed to the needs of entrepreneurs in their development.

·        Exceptional organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.

·        Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Southeast Alberta Energy Diversification Strategy (SEEDS)

Medicine Hat Alberta ( October 2, 2017). Our region, our jobs, our community.

Energy has long been one of Alberta’s principal and fundamental industries. Over the span of a few short months we have seen a change to the landscape of renewable energy in Southeast Alberta (SE AB).  The conversation around the need to diversify how energy is produced and harnessed has increased.

With over 40% of all renewable energy projects being considered within our region, there is a realization that our area will be the opportunity corner to attract commerce, grow the local job market and support existing and diversifying business with our region.

“With an emerging industry bringing new opportunities for our communities and businesses, the time is now to ensure we are ready for what is ahead.  The SEEDS partnership is working together to lay the groundwork and position or region for success in the renewable energy industry.” Says Sandra Moore….

From what started as a group of three regional community stakeholders, SEEDS has now expanded to a collaborative initiative and unified voice to market and promote the potential in SE AB. The SEEDS partners include Community Futures Entre Corp, Alberta Labour, Medicine Hat College, Economic Development Alliance (EDA) of Southeast Alberta, City of Medicine Hat, County of Newell and the City of Brooks.

 SEEDS is currently developing three reports that will explore the impacts of industry, workforce and supply chain innovation as it pertains to the renewable energy sector in SE AB.

This strategy is to include:

·       Engaging with renewable energy stakeholders

·       Developing a regional industry strategy and workforce plan

·       Exploring the potential supply chain impacts of the renewable energy industry, including opportunities for existing businesses

·       Developing occupational profiles for the emerging renewable energy industry
