Launch Your Career: Foremost UAS Test Range Now Hiring Aerospace Intern for the 2025 Season

The Foremost UAS Test Range, located in the Village of Foremost, Alberta, is excited to announce an opening for an Aerospace Intern position for the summer of 2025. This hands-on role offers an incredible opportunity to gain real-world experience in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations!

 

About the Role:

The Aerospace Intern will support operations at the Foremost UAS Test Range. The intern will have the chance to contribute to UAS testing and operations, working with Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), radar systems, and other cutting-edge technology. You'll gain invaluable experience in a wide range of duties, including flight operations, safety monitoring, and airspace coordination.

This full-time, 16-week internship offers a $27 per hour wage. Ideal candidates are passionate about aviation and technology, with backgrounds in aeronautics, electronics, computer science, or UAS studies. Applicants should be prepared to live in a nearby town, as the Village of Foremost offers limited housing.

Funded through the Rural Aerospace Development (RAD) Project, the internship is an excellent opportunity to work at one of Canada’s premier BVLOS test ranges, building valuable skills and connections in the aerospace industry.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate RPAs under 25 kg, assist with planning, pre-flight checks, and flight operations.
  • Maintain radar systems for situational awareness and Detect-and-Avoid (DAA) applications.
  • Serve as a Visual Observer during RPAS flight operations.
  • Communicate with local air traffic on VHF air band radios.
  • Assist in coordinating airspace restrictions and work with NAV Canada for airspace activation.
  • Participate in Range Safety Officer training and operations.

 

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be between 18-29 years of age.
  • University or College student/graduate in fields like aeronautics, GIS, electronics, computer science, or RPAS studies (preferred).
  • Must hold a Class 5 GDL driver’s license and possess basic computer skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and a solid work ethic.
  • A Transport Canada Small RPAS Operator Certificate (Basic or Advanced) and Radio Operator Certificate are assets.
