In December, Joe Reinhardt and Chris Knodel partnered together to open Black Alder Construction and offer quality renovations and woodwork in Medicine Hat.
They both had experience owning separate businesses, and needed more of a financial cushion when they merged to take on larger projects.
They applied and received the Small Business Loan through Community Futures Entre-Corp. Joe says the process was straightforward, smooth, and seamless.
“Darren and Greg told us exactly what we needed and were very pleasant to deal with. They were very personable, and it wasn’t intimidating — we had very open and frank conversations,” says Joe.
The loan has benefited the two owners, especially with having funds to set up systems and procedures, along with the company as a whole for it to continue to grow over the years.
Joe has been a business owner in the community for over 10 years, and Chris for two years. They knew their skill sets were complementary to one another — Chris likes working in the field, Joe prefers being in the office, and they both have the same expectations for quality of work.
“Our goal is to provide excellent renovation, woodwork, and construction services to our community. We have a very transparent and reliable process of how we do things — on time and on budget,” says Joe.
Joe heard of Community Futures Entre-Corp through his wife, who attended educational sessions before opening her business. Then, Joe’s and Chris’ business coach recommended they connect with Community Futures Entre-Corp for loans, grants, and support.
“It feels good being able to reach out to Community Futures. It gives you a certain amount of peace. There are not so many unknowns. It feels good to have the support,” says Joe.
