Mark Gott has fixed garage doors over the last 16 years in Medicine Hat, and in 2022 he took the step to start his own business. Gott Garage Door Services has officially been open for three months, and in that time Mark has worked with Digital Service Squad expert Taylor Hardekopf to build a website and grow his digital presence.
The Digital Service Squad is a free service for business owners to educate and support them on how to enhance their business digitally — through website design, social media plans, SEO, brand design, and much more.
“A lot of people think they’re alone in this when they start a business. To have a free service like this in Medicine Hat is important and really encouraging to new business owners,” says Mark. “These experiences with Taylor, having a great website now that he built, inspired me to plan further with my business.”
Mark moved to Medicine Hat from England in 2005 and has been in the garage door industry since 2006. His abundance of knowledge and experience allows him to install and repair residential and commercial garage doors. A simple phone call is all that’s needed to require his services.
“I’ve been doing this for so long, that it only made sense to open my own business. Customer service is really important to me, and I really like to help people,” says Mark. “Working with Taylor was great. He definitely knows what he’s doing and he’s willing to listen. He’s accommodating. I couldn’t imagine this experience being better with anyone else.”
Having a website is that next step to have his business more available on the internet. Google is a search engine used by many people — to have a website connected to the business name will make it easier for people to get into contact with him and find more information about his business.
“I ventured here by myself 17 years ago, and I’ve built my experience with garage doors. It feels great to own my business now, and I wouldn’t do anything differently,” says Mark.

Digital Main Street was created by the City of Toronto and the Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas in 2016 to assist main street businesses in growing their operations through technology with easy to use tools and resources.
