Owner of I Cut Trees, Glenn Salewski is busy in the summer cutting, hedging, manicuring, and removing trees and bushes in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
The business owner is a certified arborist and has worked with trees for over 20 years, starting in British Columbia and then moving to Medicine Hat. When he decided to start I Cut Trees, he attended a course hosted by Community Futures Entre-Corp that taught him the full ins and outs of owning a business.
He says this into-knowledge helped set him up for success with his business.
“I knew if I wanted to open a business, there was more I needed to know on the business side than the work side. It benefited my business a lot from the start, because I learned about marketing and other important information. It gave me a good notion on where I wanted to go and how to deal with things,” says Salewski.
He then applied for the Small Business Loan at Community Futures Entre-Corp, in which he was approved. He purchased his trim truck, and recently upgraded to a hydraulic chipper — once the trees are taken down, the chipper grinds it into chips.
“The support from Community Futures has been really nice. If I have different issues or questions, I can always phone and get help or advice at any time. It’s convenient and everyone is always helpful,” he says.
Salewski’s business is open from snowfall to snowfall, his season starts as soon as the snow is gone and ends when it begins to fall again.
