Just over a year ago, Charlene Rosse became the owner of the community-loved eatery, Bobby’s and Char’s Bar & Grill, in Bow Island, Alberta.
She applied for the small business loan through Community Futures Entre-Corp to purchase the building, because she knew that was a key step in owning her business. She recognized the willingness to support from the Community Futures team, which she was very grateful for.
“Greg was amazing. He is personable and easy to talk to. He was very patient with me and answered all my questions — he even went through the pros and cons with me on using the loan to purchase the building. It was really great to have that support,” says Rosse.
Since the start, she’s continued to create a home atmosphere in the Bar & Grill, where people return more than once to enjoy a home-made meal. Their ingredients are fresh and their patty’s are hand-made in house, along with other items on the menu.
“We welcome everyone into the bar. Meeting new people is one of my favourite things about owning this business. We get to hear their stories, and we do stay in touch with some. We’ve had travelers come through who we’ve helped out. Workers in the area come in whenever they come back to town,” says Rosse.
She is passionate about hosting charity events and regular events that bring people together. She currently hosts poker runs at the bar. It’s biker friendly with an outdoor deck and music to enjoy with food and beverages. There are new things coming in the spring that she is excited to share with the community. Bobby’s and Char’s Bar & Grill is located along Highway 3. The space has indoor and outdoor seating.
